Hurricane Harvey Relief Info
Austin New Church's first response to Hurricane Harvey is going to start with 3 action points:
1)Host a family. We became aware of a local org that works to connect displaced families with host families. It’s called ATX Common Ground Relief. You can find out about them HERE. Sign up to host or help HERE.
2)Give financially through Legacy Collective. This is a no-brainer. Started by our very own Brandon & Jen Hatmaker, LC has raised and given away over $1.2 million since August 2015. Their org is leading the way in partnering and supporting on-the-ground sustainable relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey.
3)Buy a fan or dehumidifier. Fans and dehumidifiers are fast becoming unavailable in the Houston area. Everyone is going to need them when the waters recede. If we would be willing to purchase a FAN HERE, or DEHUMIDIFIER HERE, and have them drop-shipped to: 16216 Remuda Trail, Buda, TX 78610
Stand by for more “boots on the ground” opportunities. The dust still hasn’t settled with Harvey and groups like the Red Cross and HEB have swooped in with immediate aid relief. We believe that ANC’s best efforts will begin in a week or two with possible daily trips to affected areas. Some of your employers will encourage, possibly even pay you for your days serving in this capacity. Please check with your bosses to see if this might be the case, or consider scheduling a day off. We’ll know more soon.
We are not limited to these action points, but they are our first efforts and thoughts. If you have other ideas or know of people displaced by recent events who need short-term placement in the Austin area, email email@example.com.
