I'M A BELIEVER
I'm A Believer (Faith Is...) Hebrews 11:1-12:3
In this week's Bible story, we are learning about FAITH. In these Scripture verses, the author of Hebrews talks to us about faith and how the people in the Bible trusted God without wavering. Take a look:
Hewbrews 11: 1-3: Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see. God was pleased with the people who lived a long time ago because they had faith like this. Faith helps us understand that God created the whole world by his command. This means that the things we see were made by something that cannot be seen.
Here's some examples of those people who lived a long time ago that had great faith:
Abel: offered God a sacrifice and God was pleased with him because Abel had great faith
Enoch: a man who pleased God so much that God called him up to heaven to be with him
Noah: built an ark to save his family because God told him He was going to flood the earth even though the world thought he was wrong
Abraham: God told him to go to another land to live and that he would one day inherit that very land. Abraham trusted God and eventually God gave him that land
Sarah: was very old but God promised her and Abraham a child and He gave them one in their very old age
(There are SO many more examples of God's faithful people:)
Issac, Jacob, Joseph, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, David, Samuel, the prophets Moses, Daniel, and of course Jesus' disciples.
But we cannot forget the most faithful person: JESUS! God was well pleased with His son and Jesus is the ultimate example that we should follow. See what Hebrews says about this:
Hebrews 12: 1-3: "We have all these great people around us as examples. Their lives tell us what faith means. So we, too, should run the race that is before us and never quit. We should remove from our lives anything that would slow us down and the sin that so often makes us fall. We must never stop looking to Jesus. He is the leader of our faith, and he is the one who makes our faith complete. He suffered death on a cross. But he accepted the shame of the cross as if it were nothing because of the joy he could see waiting for him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne. Think about Jesus. He patiently endured the angry insults that sinful people were shouting at him. Think about him so that you won’t get discouraged and stop trying."
BOTTOM LINE: You can know Jesus even though you've never seen Him.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are things that you believe that you can't see?
