Anytime there is a 5th Sunday in the month, Austin New Church cancels church services and goes out into the community to engage real need. We see this as a form of discipleship where we have the opportunity to be the "Hands and Feet" of Jesus. The initial vision of ANC was to "Serve the Poor and Be About the Kingdom". Restore Weekend is a way of engaging physical, emotional and many times, spiritual need to those who find themselves in the margins.
Our 3-year relationship with one of the oldest subsidized housing facilities in the nation, for low-income families and single moms has one of our staples when it comes to engagement during the pandemic. One overlooked population in the Santa Rita community has been its seniors.
We have a wonderful opportunity to bless the senior citizens at Santa Rita. A lot of the seniors there have been homebound during the pandemic and we will be putting together bags to deliver to their doorsteps along with handwritten cards from our ANC Youth. If you would like to help the opportunity to help, please give financially HERE to fill the bags. (The response to help fill/distribute the bags was great--so great in fact that we are fully stocked with volunteers for this project! Thank you to all who volunteered!)
Posada Esperanza provides short-term housing to newly arrived immigrants & refugees in Austin. They've asked that in help getting their houses ready for summer! We will construct a new playset in their yard, secure and clean existing playsets, and do yard work. If you are handy and good at construction projects, we'd especially love to have you join but there will be projects for folks of all skill levels.
Then also we have a work day planned on May 29th to help assemble the playset and do other handy/yard work. You can register to help HERE.
Something we have desperately needed especially as we begin to gather again at ANC is to restripe the parking lot. Fortunately one of ANC's students has taken this on as his Eagle Scout Project. So you can help Alex and ANC in one of two ways.
A) Donate for supplies HERE
B) Sign up to help HERE (5/30 @ 11:00am)
or HERE (5/30 @ 2:00pm)
The second part of Alex's Eagle Scout project was helping beautify our campus. With the super hard freeze we lost some plants but also the front of our building/landscaping has just been neglected for years. Brad Hardin has designed a xeriscape front bed with with little/no maintenance which will have Texas native grasses/plants and feature mainly crushed granite and river stone.
If you would like to be a part of a church work day/beautification project to make your church look more appealing and/or would like to assist Alex with his Eagle Scout project sign up
Also if you haven't yet donated and would like to help monetarily (we are a few hundred shy of reaching the $1500 goal) you can click HERE.
