OUR LEADERS.

STAFF.

  • Jason Morriss

    Lead Pastor | he/him

Raised in a missionary family, Jason spent his early years between East TN, Sanibel Island, FL, and Michoacan, Mexico. Music was his first love, but preaching and pastoring eventually captured his full attention, taking him through an undergrad degree in Bible, and an MDiv in theology from Northern Theological Seminary.

Upon graduation in 2009, Jason did a short stint at a megachurch in Houston, TX, where he oversaw leadership development and ordination. In late 2013 Jason moved to Austin to help pastor ANC, taking the lead role in 2016.

Progressive by nature, Wesleyan by choice, Jason is endlessly inquisitive and curious. He loves to run, read, ride vintage motorcycles, and hang out with his 5 daughters who live all over the world now. The talented staff and board of ANC allow Jason to focus on what he loves most; words, poetry, developing people, and the art of preaching.

If you’d like to meet with Jason, schedule a time HERE.

  • Tray Pruet

    Pastor | he/him

Tray and his wife, Jenny, moved to Austin and co-founded Austin New Church in 2008. With a business degree from the University of Alabama, Tray’s used his business acumen in starting and running two successful homebuilding companies, and helping his sister and mom run his family business after his father’s death prior to moving to Austin. He oversees the church’s finances, operations, facilities and volunteers as well as teaching when called upon. Tray says the most life-giving part of “the job” of pastor, is seeing dead things come back to life. Old faiths renewed, rocky marriages thrive, reuniting estranged family members and seeing people come to a fuller, richer expression of Jesus than they ever knew. His own included. As a recovering Southern Baptist, Tray has enjoyed growing in his faith as the church continues to progress in its expression in love and inclusion to ALL. Tray enjoys his empty nest (with his wife of course), watching his adult kids thrive, spending time with his granddaughter, fine cigars, traveling with friends, watching college football and home-grown tomatoes.

  • Catherine Johnston

    Teaching & Creative Development Pastor | she/her

Catherine grew up in the coastal plains of South Texas. She’s a writer and former teacher who loves words, theology, nature, and people. She has an undergrad in English Lit and a master’s in education from Texas A&M. She and her family moved to Austin in 2016 and found ANC in 2018. She loves nectarines, three-part harmony, and hatch chili chocolate. She hates crumbs between couch cushions.

When not wrangling her kids, writing or reading, you can find her in the woods, on a run. Or in the garage, planning what tools to buy for her next DIY which she will probably—absolutely—not finish. In her free time (ha), she’s pursuing a master’s in clinical counseling. And every week she pinches herself, to make sure she’s not dreaming… that she gets to be part of a church like ANC.

  • Stephanie Swan

    Childrens Pastor | she/her

Originally from the Texas Panhandle, Stephanie and her family moved to Austin in 2006 to help plant a church in downtown Austin. After eight years with the church plant, they decided to make the move to ANC for a better place for their girls to get plugged in with kids and youth ministry. After volunteering on a small scale with ANC Kids, Stephanie was asked to step into the role of ANC Kids Pastor in the fall of 2019. She is passionate about making all kids feel safe AND loved and wants all kids to experience the full love of God and to feel included and seen. Stephanie enjoys crafting in her spare time and delights in spending time with her husband Nathan, her daughters Sage, Emersyn, and Aspen, and her dogs, Aphrodite and Zilker. Stephanie also loves live music and hanging out with friends at all the breweries in and around Austin.

  • Melinda Tabb

    Student Pastor

My family and I have been attending ANC since we moved to Austin at the end of May 2021 from the Tulsa area of Oklahoma. My husband, Jared, and I have 3 daughters; Lily-Kate, Lucy, and Chloe. We had been following ANC online for a few years before moving to Austin so there was no question of where we would attend church once we moved here. I am a certified hairstylist but in the last two years, I realized I wanted to do hair just as a hobby. I taught Preschool at Faith Preschool, behind the church last year and realized that I want to be a certified teacher. On Monday I start classes at ACC to get me on my way to becoming an elementary teacher. I've been volunteering in youth ministry for six years and the past year was with ANC Students. I have gotten to know a lot of your kids and look forward to serving them to the best of my abilities

  • Lamar Stockton

    Worship Pastor

Lamar Stockton has been leading worship at Austin New Church since 2010. Finding this community restored his faith in what the local Church could be on the heels of a difficult season. Since that time, Lamar would say it has been a pleasure and a welcome challenge to learn and grow with the ANC family. He's married to Jill, an accomplished and dedicated educator with Austin ISD, and they have two incredible kids, Tyler and Victoria. Lamar is the Chief Operating Officer for our global mission partner, Help One Now. As a musician and humanitarian, he strives to listen first, make connections, build teams, and empower leaders to foster change and progress in their own context.

He started attending ANC right away, having heard about ANC’s inclusive atmosphere and passion for people and equality through social media (and through his fantastic, affirming folks). Patrick grew up in a very evangelical environment where he felt he was at a crossroads with his sexuality and his faith, but ANC became the first church home where he truly felt he could explore the complexities of faith while also being openly queer. He works from home in UX design and has a theatre/creative background (which he utilizes on occasion to keep his creative muscles moving and to ensure his theatre degree from Baylor University doesn’t go to waste).

She’s found it a safe place to ask questions and explore the edges of doubt and curiosity. She works as a database architect and loves writing, baking, documentaries, and deep conversations. As someone who has lived with a chronic illness for many years, she has deep empathy and wisdom when it comes to supporting and loving those who are differently abled.

  • Terra Brimberry

    Logistics
Terra and her husband, Don, came to ANC in 2018 after searching for a church family that had an expansive table for all to join. She has always been active in a local church and grew up as an MK (Missionary Kid) in Seoul, Korea, and then a PK (Preacher’s Kid) in West Texas. In spite of their more conservative background, her parents taught her the true meaning of God's grace and instilled in her a love for people, a passion for equality, and a heart for hospitality. Terra has two wonderful adult children and an amazing son-in-law. She started her career as a Social Worker, and now works in Account Management for a software company.
